TECHNIQUES - Glass Beads and Jewelry

My glass beads are created using the traditional lampworking techniques of forming glass in a flame. I make each glass bead by hand, tempering ancient tradition with a contemporary design approach, then carefully select and combine them to create the finished piece. The heavy 12 gauge sterling wire used to form the bangles provides for both strength and flexibility and the “S” hook clasp can be easily adjusted to make a perfect fit for most wrist sizes. Larger or smaller sizes can be special ordered.

Visit the studio tour page to see photos of my workbench and studio where I make the glass beads and create the jewelry and sculpture featured on this site.

EDUCATION

Monterey Peninsula College

MPC is a California community college with a great jewelry and metal arts department headed by Theresa Lovering-Brown. I teach a number of classes every semester, including basic and advanced jewelry making, enameling, plus a great variety of special classes that change each semester. Check out the MPC site for the current schedule. Choose "Art" from the "category" list. Most of the jewelry class offerings are in Art 80-89 series but a few will be in the Art 96 series on the last page of the listings.
